Default Small long handle shovel

Have been tinkering with a small shovel design. this is the latest version..so far. Previous attempts failed to stand up to rough use.

Probably be easier to buy a spade shovel and switch the heavy handle out for something a little lighter.

It's not heavy at all. And the business end is only about 4" wide. Perfect for making a 4X4 plug. the spades I saw seemed too wide.

Lowes sells long handled trenching shovels that are only about 4" wide, pretty reasonable.

It'll get pretty heavy if you lug it around on a days hunt.

If you can't afford a Lesche/Whites Digging Tool I'd just get a cheap gardening knife from wally world. I can't afford to pay $50.00 for a garden shovel (whites tool), but I'll probably end up getting one anyways. I've heard many great things about them and they are very heavy duty little things.
