I found this a few weeks ago on my property near an old field stone wall. I know that there was a farm back in the late 1700's-early 1800's but not convinced this is from that time period. Since then the fields have turned to thick woods. I thought it was something from a plow but figured I would get some other opinions. Thanks for looking!

Cool find, I always love finding unkown tools
Could the 3 semi circles be for a hand grip, while the opposite end is a clamp of some sort???? __________________ |

I would guess that it is a clevis off of a horse drawn plow or possible could be off a horse drawn wagon. I don't think that it is from the 1700's-early 1800's time period though. I am a farmer and remember having the same hitch on one of our pieces of equipment but can't remember which one it was. Steve.

This is just a guess...
Perhaps it's part of a large grain scale?????? __________________ |

When I get some extra time I will print a copy of the picture and let some of my Amish neighbors have a look at it, they will know what it is I'm sure. Steve.

Im pretty sure that is from a single bottom horse drawn plow, ring in top notch tilts plow down and deeper. Here is pic of similar plow adjustment, the hook on front.

This is what I was thinking. I forgot all about this post, I am going to print it off and am on my way to one of my Amish neighbors to see what they say. I will be right back. Steve.

Just got back from my Amish neighbors, I showed him the pictured he smiled and said follow me. We went into his shed and he pointed look over there, there was a plow with the same exact thing. It is off from a potato plow or he says some people call it a potato digger. And as far as he knew the potato plow is the only piece of equipment that has that type of clevis. You can see in the picture that it has 3 notches that the round ring can fit in, he says that is for adjustment if you are using a shorter or taller horse. Steve.

I bought this antique potato plow a couple of weeks ago and have been looking for a picture of the missing clevis! I wired a piece of plastic tube to the front where the clevis attaches just so I could hang the whiffletree.
