Found this coin wedged between some tree roots of a small cliff at a park. Wasn’t sure what it was at first, thought maybe it was a caked clad dime until I was able to clean it up at home. Three cent nickel from 1868. I apologize in advance for the quality, still figuring this out from my phone.

Awesome coin. It is nickel not silver. I once bought one of those from an antique store who told me it was silver only to get home and read in the red book it was nickel.

Really nice coin though, I'd love to dig one.

Very nice find, and in great shape too. Most of the ones I've seen posted are pretty toasty. I would love to find one. Good luck, Mark

That's a nice find and a cool piece of U.S. history. If I remember correctly, three-cent nickels were introduced to make it easier to buy stamps, which cost $0.03 at the time.
