Default key date V

cant sleep today so I decided to go through my pics and clear some memory cards. found this a few months ago{I think I made a post about it but never posted a pic} as you can see its not in great condition but a key date is a key date and the 1885 V is a good un from what I hear.

That's an unfortunate 1885 V nick! But yah I'm sure if it came time to sell it, it would still bring a pretty penny.

Now, if that was a 1913 V nickle instead of a Buffalo, you could vacation for life

WoW!!! Relic. Great find. You can hardly find one of those anywhere, let alone pulling one out of the ground. WTG

I was told alot of that crud could be cleaned off there professionally...and it will increase the value quiet a bit. I was offered $225 for it but refused it. all I did was run it under warm water to get most of the loose dirt off and have been thinking about having it cleaned which would cost a bit then have it graded and slabbed..but from what I hear cleaned is cleaned and will be graded as such no matter if done professionally or not...does this sound like solid info?..but then I hear even cleaned will bring in more than its current state so I am on the fence with it..Ill never sell it unless Im forced to.

That is a great find Kris... try soaking it in olive oil... (does not count as cleaning)... it will take weeks, but should improve it considerably. Especially if most of that is organic, as it appears. You can try (after a few weeks), a few gentle rubs with an oil soaked Qtip...not abrasively, just dabbing. That will remove what the oil has loosened. RickO

Hi, Even if you have that professionally cleaned, it will always be called corroded or enviormentally damaged. That will not change. It's been corroded in the ground and can not be reversed. What can change is the final grade that is assigned to it. The "net" grade. That may be higher if it's professionally cleaned. Also a cleaning will keep it from corroding any further from contact with the air. Also nice to see it slabbed and protected. But a great coin none the less either way.
