In Aug.08 I went with friend to his in-laws property and I MD'ed a mid 1800s school/church. The property was over grown with small trees and weeds. The building still stands proud but has alot of weather and vandal damage. I had just received my Ace 250 several weeks earlier and had only used it around parks to learn it. I thought I would search in all metal mode(no! no! some of you are thinking I know what I'm doing) But I did it so I would know what was iron and would'nt dig it. I had alot of mixed signals and if it showed any iron I DID'NT DIG IT.....
What I did find was 1896 I.H, 1863 Union For Ever tokin, 1921 Dog tag, and a ring of unknown metal. I have'nt figured out how to post the pics on here but I did save them to my album. P.s Also a NEWBIE mistake was to try to polish up the I.H but at least I left the tokin alone!!!!! As soon as the snow melts you can bet I'll be back and this time DIG EVERYTHING!!!!!!! |

Nice finds.. that site could hold a lot more... is the building accessible? If it is in ruins (that means abandoned and slowly decaying) than it might be worth checking inside as well if it is safe. RickO

Hay Scott,
Congrats on tha great finds. You'll done exceptionally well. Most newbe's just walk over sites like that in confusion and fail to find anything. Then thay say it's not a good site. If you keep workin with tha 250, and really learn it, I know you will be successful. Thanks fer sharin, Tabdog |

Hi guys.
The school is approx. 20' by 25' and is still standing. The desks appear to have been piled up outside and are almost completely deteriorated. the old wood stove is just a pile of rust. The black boards are are mostly gone from the walls but you can still tell what they were. I just wish I had dug everything but there was so much iron signals from the rusted desk, roofing, nails and misc. if I detected a target and after checking several directions it showed any iron I dismissed it as trash. Now I know better and the school is still there.....
