Smile Confederate Camp Digs from Virginia

Hey Gang!

I went and hit a little confederate camp this afternoon. Like every place in Virginia, it's been hit hard. I walked down a real steep slope in hope of finding a few relics. It's where the average person wouldn't go....it's quite a slope. After about 5 minutes, I dug a friction primer for a cannon. About 50 feet away, I dug a small thimble that had been smashed (hate that). I looped around and dug a second friction primer and then a Henry Repeating Rifle brass casing.

Anyhow, I walked back up the hill and into the camp where I dug a fired 3-ringer. I decided to hunt beside an old period road bed hoping for another signal. I got a slight tone next to a fallen log and to my surprise, I dug a button. I had a feeling it was confederate although you couldn't read the face from the dirt. I was the right size and back looked like a CS local. I got happy and headed home and cleaned the button and the other relics.

The button turned out to be a super NORTH CAROLINA with about 95% of the gold guilt present. The back is full of gold and appears to have an S. A. Meyers (Richmond, Virginia) backmark.

Anyhow, here are a few photographs of my digs.

Have a great weekend folks.

John
