7 days of private Caribbean beaches and .....

First leg of my travels brought me to the Atlantis resort on Paradise Island (Nassau, Bahamas). Kept the CTX in my carry-on backpack and had no problems with TSA or the airline; however, customs required me to leave a $200 deposit which was later returned when I left the island.

Spent 7-days on private and public beaches around Atlantis / Paradise Island. Condiment packages (ketchup and mustard) riddled the beach and rang up as a 12:01 or 12:02 which is the same as some 10k. The beaches were also riddled with cigar foil wrappers and aluminum pull tabs. Take a half-step, dig trash, put in pouch and repeat. This was my most challenging hunt ever.... No luck with gold, whammy.

I spent 14 hours in the water....again pull tab city. The water was crystal clear and I had barricudas dodging in and out to see what I was up to. A kid lost his class ring, saw me swinging and brought me over to try and find it. The water got deep quick and was over my head before I could get to the area. Skunked, whammy again.

Total silver = 0
Total gold = 0
Total clad = $0.98
Total casino winnings (penny slots) = $1,1k

H/H, I guess we can't win 'em all! :D

I would've been majorly bummed out if I had the hunt at that resort. I could understand the lack of coins due to newfangled ways to pay for things but NO jewelry?

We stayed there a few years back and I couldn't get over how much trash was around the resort. There were balcony chairs and beer cans in the bushes outside our room for 3 of the 5 days we stayed. Then there's the $50 burgers from room service.

I almost ran into Michael Jordan in the casino. I say almost b/c I was half in the bag, started walking towards him and a GIANT security guard stepped in front of me, so I walked into him instead and was promptly escorted the other way. I also saw Dustin Hoffman playing blackjack for $10 a hand and Paris Hilton was skanking around the back of the casino where the mega-yachts all dock.

So, on the down side, suck that you didn't find anything good. On the upside, next time my wife and I take a cruise to the Bahamas I won't be tempted to bring my ATP. I would really expect that there would be a ton of lost jewelry there just based on the clientele. Oh well.... Live... Learn.

I know that Island very well,,,,,I supplied doors and hardware for the Hotels going back to the Royal Towers in 2001,,,,,I am really surprised you didn't get anything in the water,,,,,Its sand brought in but there is enough hard bottom to make it work,,,,I know that the Bahamians do hunt the dry sand when tourists tell them they lost something,,,,,they just don't do it when they are around,,,,,,

Sweet trip - Bummer on the MD front.

Thanks for posting the info - you saved me a ton of clams and several months of hype/research. Been searching for the best cruise destinations for MD'ing and the Bahamas were towards to top....

How much were your winnings at the slots?
$1,100.....then wifey and I went out and I think I have about $0.65 left over. ha ha ha

..but NO jewelry?
I observed a lot of people wearing jewelry in the casino and clubs but not so much on the beach. Also, there wasn't a lot of horseplay either. Most folks were relaxing or casually wading in the water. I'm sure they still lose stuff, but....

Atlantis is cash-free so everything is credit card only. eh...cool story about the celebs!

I know, right!

The one time I tried to hunt there it was way too rough...large rolling waves. ugh
Yup, last two days were like that. My scoop kept smashing my ankle...eventually I called it and went back to dry sand.

The beaches have a pretty quick drop off. The water is 6-7 feet deep at just about 20 feet from shore. Most of the sandy bottoms were soft ripples that ranged 8-12" in height. Hard bottoms were a challenge to find, but when I found them, I switched to deep search, all-metal mode. Nadda.

I think it is a target rich environment, but obviously somethings awry....probably a local that hits the area every night. And the target-rich areas aren't that big. I imagine a three-day rotation would hit all the areas even going slow while gridding.

Well that's just awesome. Heading there next week. Gone are my dreams of pirate gold on every finger... :(

Looks like a Great trip just not a place to find lost treasures. I found out several years ago, sometimes the best treasure is right down the street.

Sounds like you had great weather and I can imagine the sights (tiny little string things) were insane. Glad you got to have fun and now get your a$$ back to work!
