Default First demo, first finds and first post!

Howdy all,
Been lurking for a while "collecting" a decent trove to share and some time to share it;
I just got a Bounty Hunter Tracker 4 in Aug with the idea of getting rid of the nails and rustspots under the old shed (built reportadly circa early 1950's.) in the back yard that I was tearing down due to age and deterioration.

The bare area next to it is where a secondary 3 sided shelter was located, built off the original (Showing.) It was large enough for a full sized auto to fit in. I tore it down before I started taking pictures.

I bought the MD while tearing down the shed.......I didn't need a MD to see this plate or glass thingy sticking out of the mud.

But sitting right on top of the mud were two of these Hubcaps (I found them here, http://www.hubcaps.org/buick1.html)

The pics of the shiney one was after I took a shoft brush and water to it.

Didn't really find anything else under that area besides nails and soda/beer tops (so far-gone all ID was impossible.)

So I hit the yard.

Found my first penny on the walk in front of house......1984.

Found a dime (1970's) off the back porch.....

And that's about all the money I've found in my yard......A yard that has been inhabited constantly for a half a century!!

However............I have found everything else;

All of these pics are from near large trees in the yard and the trail that can be seen going round the shed in the first pic.

Again, what is that? A gas can cap?

The trash can holds the can slaw I dug through and up.

But apparently I'm not doing something right.....trash pics won't load......will try to figure out and show my impressive collection of scrap later.

Wow... your yard had ALOT of iron items in it. That steel spindle is pretty neat.

I think I am unable to load my trash pictures because they are just a little too big. Any recommendations for converting them/cropping them to better size?

I agree with the others,when you get all the big stuff cleared out,you will start finding the good stuff.

As far as the pics,most picture editing software will resize pics,just gotta figure out how to use it.(yea,I know,easier said than done!!!)

The "spindle" thing look like a flu from an old freestanding wood burning stove, like the pot belly stoves from my youth ... my grandparents, on both sides had one.

The grate above it and the iron plate a few pictures below it could also be from the same stove. Although I'm thinking it could be a cook stove instead of a pot belly.

What is that last thing? I believe it is the internal mechanism for the ash shaker on the wood burning stove, but can't find a reference for it. It would have a handle or crank on the outside that you turn to shake the ashes to the bottom of the stove where the ashes would be cleaned out periodically.

Lightbulb Reducing pic file size

I have always used a quick-and-dirty method to reduce picture file sizes.

Open the pic in your program of choice. Screenshot the image (Shift-PrintScreen on most PC's)

Open Paint and choose Paste from the Edit menu.

Crop as needed and save.

You can also open JPG files and crop in paint then do a Save As and get a reduced file size.

There are more ways but these are two easy ones.

HTH

Doug
