Default A hunt and review with the ACE 250

I recently acquired an ACE 250 and decided today Id take it for a hunt...decided Id go to a spot I found last fall but have not hunted yet. it is a spot where a school stood from the 1830s-1876 them was the spot of a residents until I dont know when but its not there any more. I loaded the directions into my GPS and headed for the fields.

it wasnt that bad out today temp wise..but still a bit windy.

the GPS took me through some nice country along the river.

when I arrived at the spot a BIG coyote was there across the road to greet me..I kept my distance.

this is all that is left of the home that stood here years ago.

and here is the ace.

The very first target I dug turned out to be a bit of tin can but the second was this 1912 barber dime.

then next to it out popped a 1911 wheat cent.
then a 1920 merc in great shape.

then a couple of flat buttons and this eagle button.

I swung around for another hour or so with mot much to show other than a bit more tin and iron hunks and whats its.

It was starting to get colder as the wind picked up so I made my way to the truck,swinging the coil as I walked. I was stopped in my tracks by that sweet ace 250 bell tone and it read a dime at 4" I suspected another silver dime so I dug her up and out popped the beauty.

this is the days loot..not bad for a 2.5hr hunt with a brand new machine.

So...for the ACE250 review.
at first glance the Ace looks sort of toyish to me but its performance well makes up for that..its a real joy to swing and its target ID rivals that of more expensive machines and its depth is very impressive for such a low cost machine.
now for the cons...
the Ace does have a problem locking on to a good signal in bad ground{but that is to be expected with a non GB machine}
also the lower shaft tends to "wobble" to much but a bit of electrical tape at the joints will fix that minor problem.
other than those very small quirks the Ace is a great machine for anyone not just the beginner...if your thinking of purchasing one go for it! youll be finding the good stuff rite from the box{that assuming you are in a spot where the good stuff is }

Just signed on to the site today, bought a Garrett Ace 250 last night, and then read this. I feel like I did good, 2009 is going to be a good year. Nice find and thank you for your review.

Cool story. Great pictures and finds. Will you be going back to that site with one of your other machines?

Great hunt Relic! Many people search for years in vain trying to find the coins you found. As carol said, Research pays! You also comfirmed what I have believed for a long time and that is that the ACE 250 is one heck of a machine for the price and rivals machine at more than twice the price. Nice finds!

I've heard many good things about the F2 ... I'd like to see some post like yours on it from the F2 users ... as is said, the proof is in the pudding.

thansk! Its just a cheapo Olympus fe-115 camera..It takes great close up pics but the zoom kinda sucks on it..I had the zoom maxed out on that yote and he was only 75-80 yrds away...that would have been a beautiful pic with a better camera.
