Default Strange Hunt-part 2

I went back the the park again to finish looking through the spot I hunted the other day. I took a picture of the site to give an idea of how small an area I was talking about. I found some more clad and another pile of small bites of metal. No dates were any newer than 1980 and the total for the site was 18 quarters,26 dimes, 7 nickels,61 pennies and 1 war nickel 1944. Thanks for looking, Jim

Amazing! Is it possible there was a snack bar there once? Or a craft show?

That is as good a guess as any Carol. When I got home and sorted through the scrap metal, a thought came to me. I should have taken a magnet with me to get the small metal out of the way. Some of the stuff was small as a B-B and I chased it through the sand with my pinpointer and wasted a lot of time. Next time I find a spot like that I will have a magnet handy.

A stand of some type sounds like a real possibility. I had a very similar experience that I posted about here on the forum with carnival type tokens:

http://metaldetectingforum.com/showthread.php?t=19566

Always makes me think I should go detect all those farmer vegetable stands from years ago where they sold on the roadside corner of some vacant lot out in the country - you know:

I had the chance a few years ago to detect a spot where there was a roadside Christmas Tree stand and it produced quite a bit of change, again all in one little spot.

I like the old photos and that is a good idea about produce stand sites. Made me think of one just down the road I might take a look at. Thanks, Jim

Default Thanks for posting the pics.....

The red marble type thing caught my eye. Is it a marble ? Looks a bit smushed. Excellent idea with the magnet. I have six beauties that are set aside for cleaning up nails from beach fires. Now I've another use.
Marty
P.S. Is that an Ames 7-N-1 digger I see ? I like the wide ended handle it's truly the best of the lower price tools. Very tough.

It's not a marble, its flat on one side, just red glass or hard plastic. Yes, the digging tool is the Ames 7-n-1 tool. It is tuff and works great. Good Luck, Jim
