Default 1913 V Nickel

Can anyone tell me about a 1913 V nickel? I heard they are worth like 3 million dollars. My friends dad has one..I can upload pictures if you would like to see, or doubt me. For those of you who dont know, v nickels stopped being minted in 1912 and buffalo nickels started being minted in 1913, I believe. But any information would help.

No Liberty nickels were made that year officially, but years later collectors were stunned to learn that five 1913 examples had surfaced, all of them apparently made in secret by someone at the Philadelphia Mint. Even though the 1913 Liberty "V" Nickel was not authorized by the US mint, they came to be accepted as legitimate collectibles, and they now rank among the most coveted and valuable of all U.S. coins.

We don't doubt you, but all of the 1913 nickels are accounted for. It may be a replica or one that was intended to fool someone. But you never know, maybe one more was produced. Would love to see a picture of both sides. Makes a great conversation piece. If your friends dad is a serious collector, it may be real.

Only five 1913 Liberty Head nickels are known to exist, and of them, only three are in private hands.

The other two 1913 Liberty Head nickels are in museum collections.

But there is speculations that their may be a 6th. You may never know.

My Brother knew an old man who was born in 1913 and my brother said that he had one.... He said he saw it..... The old man said his mom got it when he was born, a whole set of coins.

I don't know if I believe it or not....

But, you never know....

That is like the 1856 Flying eagle. Some of those were given to prominant people when they were just giving them a test run... I think all congressmen and friends of the president got one....So....you never know.

Something wierd about the 3. It is smaller and offset a little high. Why isn't it incased in plastic. If its real I am in awe.

The weird thing about that coin is it appears to be circulated, but the 1913 coins were never circulated. It looks like it could possibly have been a 1910 at an earlier time, but it's hard to say.

That was my impression when I first looked at the picture, but you never know?

My guess is that it's a reworked 1903. The spacing is wrong between the 9 and 3. Also the second 1 appears to be slightly lower relief than the other numbers.

i think the only tampering that was done,if done......was the last digit.you can clearly see the outline of another digit to the left side of the 3.to me it looks like a 0. there's no need to tamper with the the second 1 on a 1910 converted to a 1913.why tamper and play with 2 numbers? that doesn't make sense? the second 1 looks legit to me.

thats my story and i'm stickin to it!

The 3 on the coin in question is very different from the 3 on the known examples.
