Default Help please Voriax.

Found this strange coin.Its 25mm in diameter.I think its french.

Looks to be a 1/4 Franc coin. No idea of value, but here is a link to that coin..
The CMES stands for "centimes" which is basically a base 10 system linked to main currency just like we use cents. So a 25cmes would be 1/4 of a franc, a 5 cmes would be 1/20th etc. (hoping I remembered that right....)

That's a nice one, Simon - not as old as your usual, but I like the design. The French made some pretty coins. Guess the hole is for tying it around the neck on a string.

I dont know what they are but i have a couple. The local coin dealer gives them to the kids when they come in.

Hehe..good that others will also id. Value of this coin is pretty nonexistant, even in uncirculated condition it's be onlt couple dollars. I've heard/read two different versions of why there are holes in coins. One is that they simply wanted to save metal and the other one is that there were two coins of different value but similar size in circulation, and the hole was added to make it easier for blind people to tell the coins apart.
