I went to a local park yesterday and had been there for a while detecting the basketball courts. I got a signal between 50-81 range at 1 1/2 inches and decided to dig it. Out popped a woman's ring with diamonds. I moved to the next target a foot in front of the last and got a signal between 10-14 foil or possible ring. Out popped another ring at 2 inches. This time it was a man's high school ring with a full signature inside and stamped "cel" and a graduation date of 2008. Turns out the woman's ring is costume jewelery and because the bang was tarnished. The man's ring is made from celestrium aka Palladium, Seladium, Dynalloy, like stainless steel and list for $319. I'll make some phone calls and track down the rightful owner. I'm sure he'll be happy to get the ring back.
I met a guy and his son at the park that told me about old WWI barracks that were converted to apartments. I went there to detect and saw some people out front and asked a guy if he'd mind if I swung my detector around. He said no problem and that I should try the old sidewalk. After a bit I got a nickel signal and out popped a silver war nickel from 1945-P at 4 1/2 inches. Turns out they were made from 1942-1945 with 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese. They needed the nickel for the war effort. I broke my silver and jewelery barrier at the same time. The Red Book lists the nickel in EF for $1.25 and Au- for $2.50. __________________ DFX, Rings (2 gold, 11 silver), Silvers (12). I'd say you had one heck of a day. I'd work the sidewalks in the complex hard.

I like the DFX, but it's a more complicated machine to learn from what I hear and see from the people that use it a couple times and put them on ebay. It's my first real detector. I had a radio shack in middle school but only used it around the yard a few times. If you want to find jewelry you really have to dig the pull tab range. I detected with a guy who had a Mine Lab Explorer II and he would find a target with the mine lab and call me over to see if I could detect it and I wasn't getting the depth he was with his. He was running Dave Z's program with his own mod's and I was in best data with the dual freq. in the preset coin program. I have tried Dave Z's program without any mods and was impressed with the increase depth. I don't like the constant oscilating sound on top the threshold. More often than not I was digging deep empty holes. Very hard to pin point. I would go over a spot and hear a high tone, re-sweep the same spot and couldn't reproduce the high tone bleep, very frustrating. I borrow the guy's Digging Deeper With the DFX. I'll study it more and visit the DFXonly.com site to pick up DFX specific techniques.
