Question OK to leave MD in car in heat???

I need to do a little shopping on the weekend, and thought about leaving my MD in the car for a few hours, and doing a little hunting on my way home. Have any of you had any damage to your MD from the heat? I noticed that a lot of you talk about stopping at the spur of the moment to do some MD'ing, so some of you must be leaving them in your vehicle. I would never leave my laptop in my car while hot, or in cold weather. Any advice?

I've left my Garrett in the car for the last 2 summers. When the ground is covered in snow and frozen for months, I take it inside. I'm sure it's not good for it, but it seems to work fine. The warmest I've ever seen it inside my tan van is 125 degrees.

I would put it in the trunk wrapped in an old blanket.

We've never had a problem but why take the chance.

In summer its not a good idea to leave your detector in your car... it usually states this in your owners manual.. I have a friend whose DFX screen warped from the heat of leaving it in his car.. I remove my detectors after every use..

I doubt a few hours would hurt anything but I would lock it up in the trunk as Carol said. HH Jim

For the short term, leaving the detector in the trunk is sometimes the only alternative. The heat inside the car from the sun shining through the windows is intense. But as stated, almost any manufacturer warns against "storing" your detector in a hot trunk for any extended period of time. Just like removing the batteries before storing the detector, protects it from being damaged. I am not about to risk my "baby" being damaged and unusable for detecting.

In extreme heat or extreme cold the LCD display can be permanently damaged.

I was wondering about the same thing- I originally planned on leaving an MD behind the seat of my truck. So I put one of those pet thermometers (it'll record the max and min temp range) in the back of my seat just to see what the conditions are like. Over 5 days the temps ranged from 38 - 130 F! Over an extended period of time, definitely not good for the MD. I'm currently testing what it's like inside a padded bag- I'm hoping the insulation will stabilize the temps a bit.
