Default Not a Beach find but thought you would like it.

This 1901 S $20 Dollar Gold Coin Was Found At A Construction Site Where We Were Having Some Repairs Made To A Old Stone Foundation...it Was Hidden Behinde A Loose Stone...it Was A Watch Fob..still Had The Bezel And Part Of The Chain Attached...there Was A Pocket Knife In The Hole Also...and A Small Container Of Some Kind Of Medication We Are Guessing??

Based on most of the vet's conversations, finding a gold coin is tough. Finding a 20.00 GP is incomprehensible.

WE WERE LOOKING AROUND THE WALL....KNOWING IT WAS A 175 YR OLD BUILDING...A MENTAL HOSPITAL KINDA CREEEPY!! ALOT OF ODD ITEMS HAVE BEEN FOUND WHEN EVER WORK IS DONE...WHEN WALLS OR CEILINGS ARE PULLED APART!!! I GOT A SEATED 1/2 DOLLAR A COUPLE YRS AGO THERE!!

WoW!! According to my 2006 Red Book the Double Eagle you found is worth quite a few bucks specially one in that condition. Well done!!

ITS GOT TO MANY DINGS DENTS SCRATCHES...JUST WORTH THE GOLD VALUE...WHICH IS ABOUT $850.00!!!

But still... why did someone hide it there? Who were they? A patient? A groundskeeper? Who were they hiding them from? How did they find the loose stone?

These kinds of questions drive me nuts!!

I'd bet you could pull more than that easy at an auction. Is it unreal to think these could go for as much as $5k in un-circulated condition? To think it's only worth the gold value is a vast understatement IMO.

Beach-Hunter is right about the coin. All the coins you dig out of the ground or find in the water are only worth melt value.(unless it is a key date or very rare specimen). Of course you can keep them for your personal collections.
