just retired to the beach and looking into something to occupy some time while i'm on the beach. Need something with more visual indicators than audible i.e. my user name...
. Also, pretty user friendly, like pick a preset and go with it. I don't want to waste my money on an entry level - i want to jump right in. ![]() Any input or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

I own the X-terra70 and I think it is a great machine, it has a very large easy to read display and is very light weight. The only fault I can find with it is that there is no backlight and I hunt a local beach after dark but unlike you I can rely on tones. I wish you luck.

Honestly I know that the Fisher F-75 does but it is more expensive and I realy hate to steer anyone away from the Xterra-70 it is a sweet machine.

The X70 is a great detector and works well in the beach conditions you will encounter. If you want a backlit screen you'll have to spend a little more however. There are a few choices you can make but I say that going with the X70 is a smart move.

I am sure there is a way to rig up a light of some sort (like a book light) to use on. Steve.

My Ace 250 doesn't have a backlight. To remedy that, I wear a ballcap at night with a clipon flashlight on the bill. Works perfectly.

Ok there fart I was just thinking and if you cannot hear at all I am not to sure what detector would realy be the best for you. The reason I say this is because I do not know if you can find anything going by the target display alone, the numbers on the display on the 70 pop up when a target is under the coil but the display numbers stay on the screen untill a new target is detected. Let me put it this way, if you had a machine that would blink a light every time a 70 would beep then that might be great for you or maybe vibrate momentarily. Please don't think I am being cold here I just don't want you to spend a lot of moner on a machine that you can't use.

Have you looked into the vibra-phone. The vibra-phone takes tones that you would hear and changes them to vibration. Looks kinda handy if you're hard of hearing.
