Can anyone help me understand what the difference between the volume and threshold knobs is on the Sov GT? Seems to me I can make the threshold louder using the volume buttom. Does the volume button also affect signals from target? Where do people usually have these set?
Also, I've noticed that when I start hunting with the Sov I set the threshold at a good level and as I hunt it seems to slowly get much louder. Is this just me? Thanks! __________________ |

I don;t have a sov but I do have an XLT which has both of these features. Thresh hold is the background nois you hear while hunting. Target volume is the sound that your detector makes when it actually beeps when you pass the coil over an item. Like I said, I don't have a Sov so I can't tell you the exact settings I keep mine at But usually, you are supposed to keep the thresh hold to the minimum that you can still hear. I don't know about the thresh hold getting louder, can't help you with that one, but I hope my information helped

...silent forest, just as loud as you don't terrify the bears... ![]() ...or a lot louder if you hunt a tot lot near a heavy used road. The threshold knob will adjust the volume of the background hum. This is just set to a level you can hear it. (I'd say very little over the edge not to hear this.) With this setting you're able to listen to very small changes in threshold hum small/deep targets will cause. (Training is the key.) Changing the volume level will have no effect to the threshold. If the threshold level will change while you're adjusting the volume, silent search in ON. Best way of using all this to me is... Switch on, volume at 3 a clock. (Using my Jolly Rogers.) Threshold to the edge and then switching to silent search. (I prefer the silent one.) Hope this helps a little... __________________ a man must do what a man must do

Thanks for the replies!
Maybe it's just me or maybe I'm doing something wrong, but the threshold knob on my Sov is the most sensitive thing I have ever seen. I usually have it set to where I can just hear the threshold which is at about 12-1 o'clock. The thing is, the difference between inaudible and PAINFULLY loud is maybe a 1-2 degree turn of the knob. And the threshold definitely gets louder as I detect - I usually need to adjust it back down every 20 minutes or so. Is this normal? __________________ |

-disc mode set the mode switch to disc. iron mask off. ground balance switch to pin point. switching on by turning the volume control to ~ 3 o'clock. threshold/silent switch to threshold. noise cancel is set to band 1. adjust threshold control until the tone becomes <just> audible sensitivity control is set to auto. Have the disc control at the 3rd dot. Notch control is set to zero. Start searching.... I never had problems to run the detector this way... __________________ a man must do what a man must do
