Been out of the hobby for a while. Bought a mediocre detector to save a few bucks before I really knew what I was going to do with it and it turned out to be ill-suited for my needs. As a result, I stuck it in a closet and it collected dust for a year or two.
Well, I'm ready to try again. This time I know what I need (a beach machine) and I sucked it up and spent the money required to get a decent unit. So here I sit as I wait for my Surf PI Pro to arrive from KellyCo. I'm chomping at the bit to hit the beach!Steve |

Hi Steve, welcome, I like your determination to pursue the most fun hobby out there. You're going to need a sand scoop too.

Welcome to the forum. Get ready for a lot of digging. Like Carol said, be sure you have a high quality scoop for recovering targets in the wet sand. Those PI detectors pick up everything and they detect DEEP!! That is where all the gold settles and you should be able to find it with your new detector. Congratulations and good luck.

to the hobby Steve. A PI Pro eh? Thats a serious detecting machine. Hard work, but good "Bennies" There is no place like the water for big time finds.
Good luck with it, plenty of users here to help you get started with it....Gil __________________ |

Thanks for all the replies, folks
I'm actually not new here, but for some reason my old posts are gone. Not sure what happened there. Was only a few so no big deal.I have a hand made sand scoop (made from a large plastic feed scoop with holes drilled in it) and it works really well in wet sand, but it's hand held I looked at long handled scoops at KellyCo, but there was only so much room in the hobby budget this month..

Welcome back, not quite a month ago, a hacker got access to the forums and server and crashed everything and for about 2 weeks we went without, but a substitute forum was set up to tide us over until Carol and Vlad battled to regain control of this one. I would say a good majority had to start from scratch, including myself.

I'm new to the forum too, but not new to metal detecting.
I have a White's Coinmaster DX2900 that I used years ago, but doesn't work. Recently I bought a Garrett Ace150, (only metal detector I could find in town for sale) and it has me hooked on the hobby again. It has surprised me how sensiitive the discrimination can be. I've dug up pieces of aluminum from a mower-shredded-aluminum-popcan, smaller than a 1/4", or a #4 stud wire terminal. Anyway, welcome to the forum, and back to metal detecting!
