Default Question about headphones

Would a generic pair of stereo(phonic) headphones be okay to plug into the detector? The kind you'd plug into your home stereo? Thanks.

They will work on a lot of detectors. Some detectors just have a mono jack and so they will work but you can only hear out of one earphone. If your detector has only a mono jack you can go to Radio Shack and get a new end and put it on with a little knowledge.

Any headphones are better than none. Using headphones saves battery usage and helps you focus. More importantly for me, it keeps nosy people from knowing what's going on.

Home stereo headphones may be less rugged than made-for-outdoors detector headphones. Treat them gently and they should work fine, though they may not shed dirt well.

I use a pair off of a CD player on my Ace 250. I have lost 80 percent of my hearing and they work well

they work great, bought a pair over a year ago for 10.00 an then still work great. the higher the ohm rating you get the louder they will be. I went with 150 ohm so I can hear them fine when hunting near the surf at the beach.Helps to get a set with volume control.

Radio Shack also has every adapter known to man, so you can get a 1/4" mono to 1/4" stereo, or 1/4" mono to 1/8" stereo adapter and avoid the modification.

I use some over-the-ear ear buds that Radio Shack sell that have a volume control (you'll want that with some machines, such as the ACE 250) and a nice long cord (you'll want that too). I bought a backup pair just in case the first pair wore out, but the first pair is still going strong!

I use Gray Ghosts and Killer Bee Wasps, but I recently received a pair of 19.00 Calrads and they work well too. Although the outside noise is not as well filtered out and the sound is not as crisp, but for 20.00 i can live with it.
