Default New Dual Field

Ok I just received my new Dual Field today. I just have a few questions. First how do you pinpoint. I know it's not like regular pinpoint on a vlf machine. Also when I sweep over an object if I sweep one way it bings but when I go the other way it's either quiet or doesn't bing. Also the sound in the headphones is crazy loud. Anyway to make it a little quiet but not sacrifice depth?

The target is in the center hole of the inner coil...

If you go over a target it should beep in both directions.

What are your settings? Where are you running the threshold?

I just set the controls to the triangles. Except the t-hold its at about 11 o'clock. It may be me though. If I swing it fast over the spot I get a signal from I get both ways, but if I go slow to find out exactly where it's at it bings real good one direction but barely or not at all the other.

You can swing the DF fast so that isn't a problem as to the volume there is a small screw inside the box on top of the electronics that you can adjust just do it with your headphones on.

I guess I will have to swing it longer than an hour to get it down.

I didn't want to make another post but I still need help. I have figured the pin pointing down. My only problem is retrieving my target. I do good if I'm on wet sand or ankle deep, but once I go around waist deep no matter what I'm not getting the target. I would think a few maybe I may not get being deep cans or something, but it's every target. I know it's there I just can't get it in scoop.

The DF's a great machine just takes some getting use to. What size scoop are you using? you need a large scoop for water hunting keeping it WELL away from the coil when swinging. Had a smaller scoop when I first started out and had the same problem as you with recovering targets.
Also had the same problem with the volume, it was real loud compared to my Excal. I didn't adjust the volume just got use to it. Don't want to miss those faint deep signals.

Duh.....YEAH! It will take at least 50 - 75 hours before you can say you are getting to know the machine and many more to get really really good with it... A PI machine is very different from a VLF. Be prepared to dig everything for a while.

I'm using a sunspot 8" scoop. With this scoop I thought for sure I'd be ok in digging targets.

Place a foot behind your coil when you PP, then place your scoop in front of your foot.. move your foot and your scoop should be right behind the target... it the water targets tend to move around or sucked down when scooping so its normal to dig 3 or 4 times on deeper targets... after a while you will be able to PP by sound as many of us do

I'm ready to dig everything if I could get it in the scoop. I don't mind digging junk. Right now junk is better than going out for four hours and digging and finding literally nothing.

Ok I will try that. Man it's driving me nuts with digging and digging and it's still in the ground.

With that DF you'll dig really deep targets sometimes, and in some sanded-in conditions I found that the sand fills the hole almost as fast as I dig. When I first started out (about 85 hours ago) I once dug a bottlecap that took me 18 scoops to recover. The hole was a good 12 inches deep and filled right back in as I dug. The sand was really soft and the current was fairly strong.

Its part of learning the waterhunting aspect of the hobby... don't be so hard on yourself thinking you are doing something wrong...we have all been there

Do as Craig says with the marking it with your foot. Also you are gonna sometimes have a target either drop or float out of your scoop. The other day i could see my scoop underwater when i brought it up.And a zinc penny lifted out of the scoop and went with the current right before my eyes.Little gold earring backs are amongst the hardest to ever retrieve. They'll fall out of your scoop and flutter to the bottom several feet away.As do pulltabs.
As Craig said also.Don't be so hard on yourself.I went a long time before i dug my first gold.Experience does make it easier. You get frustrated, next thing you know your swing suffers. And you quit hunting too early. You wouldn't believe the guys who post that gold find that saved the day back to the car.My first gold came when i was on my way back home. And was fixing to pass the beach i had already hit.Decided to try 5 more minutes, and BAM! Did the gold dance. And was shocked i found gold, even though that is what i was looking for!

Thanks on the encouragement. I told myself I would stop for a week to just clear my head( lack of a better word)....ok actually to heal my back from digging half way to china. Instead I'm gonna go but maybe not as long. I paid to much money to have this detector beat me lol.
