Went out the other night after it got dark when it had cooled down for a quick hunt. Almost immediately I dug a nice little Sterling ring then not long after that pulled what I was certain was a large token but couldn't make it out from the light on my Pro Pointer so I just stuck it in my pocket until later. I went on to find what I thought was some clad, then I dug a penny size coin that was thicker than rest that I had found. I had to leave right away so I could see if the coin was what I thought it was and sure enough when I got home I saw that it was a 1860 Fatty IH, my first and my oldest coin to date!! on top of that I found that I had also dug three more IH's a 1891, a 1904 and a 1908 and three Wheaties. Thankfully the 08 wasn't an S mint mark because I had scratched the heck out of the back of it
. It was very exciting and my best hunt in a long time!!!

Nice coinage!!!
What type of area are you hunting? No location or specific details, just: park, church, school?? __________________ |

Sorry about no Pics on the original post I was having some camera issues, at any rate here they are. These coins were found in a local park that used to be the homesight of my grandmother. I've had great luck there, in the past I've found a good number of older coins, including my previous oldest coin an 1868 Shield Nickel. I don't know why I find older coins in this particular park, all of the other parks in town seem to have been really hunted to death. The IH's were all found between 4-6 inches deep.

Great finds in that park! Have you ever found anything in that park connected to your family?

I did find a brick which I'm certain came from the foundation of the house which was pretty cool. I also found a Daughters of the Civil War Auxillery pin which may have belonged to my grandmother but mother does not remember it.

Congrats on the 1860 Indian Head, Ed! That's a great find! I've yet to find a fatty, my oldest Indian Head is an 1864 bronze.
I've been hunting an old park in Douglas County and I found an 1857 Seated Liberty Dime there a couple weekends ago. We should get together for a hunt sometime. I'm in Champaign often. Congrats again on your oldest coin!
