Garrett pro pointer questions

Just curious, I bought a Garrett Pro Pointer (man! I wish I had this 25 years ago!) and I am curious, what is the life expectancy of the unit and how long will the battery last before it needs changing?

Depends on really how often you use it. I bought mine back in 2009 and it still works although the vibrating function has stopped.

for the price of those things, i hope they last a good long time! mine's going on 1 1/2 years and still works great! and the battery will last for a good long time!!
i always turn mine off when i'm not using it. leaving it on is just wasting your battery and mine hangs near too much metal (my finds pouch) so it would be constantly beeping at me, lol.
and in the event my battery dies on me, i always carry a spare.
you'll know it when your battery goes.... you'll hear a 2 tone "siren" type of sound that'll really freak you out the first time you hear it! but: if you shut it off when you get that tone, just give it a couple of minutes and you'll still get a couple of more uses out of it before it starts that low batt siren again!

Pete, thanks for the info. I got the "siren" sound the yesterday after only about 3 hours use out of the box. I've been turning it off between targets, but I also have 11 & 7 year old daughters that have become my Pointing Techs. The battery it came with was a cheapie so I figured it was a battery issue, just wanted to be sure.

Scott, a good alkaline should last you 6 months to a year depending how often you detect. I bought a pair of LiPo (Lithium Polymer) 9v batteries and so far they work great. Hold their charge and last a very long time but can't say how long they last since I recharge about every 2 months.

It's a crapshoot with the Garrett...I'm on my second one, and it's malfunctioning after 6 months, even though I've been taking better care of it then I did the first one, which ceased working at all after 9 months...
