Default First Successful Relic Hunt!!!!

I'll call this a relic hunt because it's the first time I've found something other than coins, bottlecaps, and pull tabs.

I headed to my dad's farm today to have a go at an old farmstead dating back to 1900 from the records I found. I'm pretty sure it's a little older however. Dad had bulldozed the old house on the property last year and ever since I got the Ace350 I've had plans to check it out.

Well it wasn't a minute into the hunt and my first find was an old double sided axe head. It was 6-8 inches down and in great shape. What a start! Woohoo!!!! I was stoked! Just have to ask my dad. We continued on and there were targets everywhere. Third target was another super cool find. An old, I think really old, Iowa license plate. Are you kidding me, this is awesome! This may not be too exciting for some but I was thrilled. To think these items had been there for so long and not be touched is very cool. A few more highlight items were a half horse shoe, something that looks like part of a horse bridel, and then what I believe to be the hardware from an old nail keg.

Then nail keg was sounding off pretty loud and when I dug it,the whole thing cam up at once. It appears I have the rings from the barrel and the top of the barrel with the handles and top ring in tact but the handles are not moving.

Also found some pink and blue glass chunks that were neat. If you can indentify any of these items, please shout out.

Anyway, this was a blast! Hunted for about 3 hrs and maybe covered 5% of the property.

Enjoy the pics, I'll have some more once I figure out how to clean them up.

You'll certainly dig up some old buckles, buttons, and coins from that era. Get ready from some amazing finds at that property.

I can only imagine what is yet to be found. We have pulled a lot of old items from the property just walking the woods. There is an old pond as well that used to be a favorite swimming/fishing hole and it is now dry, I'm thinking there is some potential there as well.

I think once we get the temps back down in the 80's I'll hit it again.

Very cool finds..
You may want to do some electrolysis on the ax head.. Doubtful but maybe a makers mark on it..

Way to go! Those are really neat relics. Love that axe and the license. Definately hit the old pond, ya never know what you could find there! Congrats and Happy Hunting!
