Default My First Ring- a DIAMOND ring! Well...

While visiting my in-laws this weekend, the group decided to escape the heat and go to the beach. When they chose Silver Beach, Michigan, I took it as a sign. How could I not metal detect at a place called "Silver Beach?" With the oppressive temperatures, the place was packed.

I spent most of the time playing with the kids and the cousins in the lake, but when the kids tired of the water I pulled out my AT Pro. I've never used it in the waster and was anxious to give it a try. The waves were up a little so I stayed close to shore, inside a little shoal that knocked down the worst of the waves. After a couple minutes of swinging in the surf, I had a good solid signal. I was surprised how little trash I was hearing given the amount of people using the beach. I guess the sand shifts often and this was a fresh drop. Turned out to be a penny a few inches down in the sand. I started searching again and got another solid signal in a couple minutes. No trash in between.

I don't know if the target was deeper, if my pinpointing was tougher in the waves, or the sand was filling back in, but I had to dig quit a big hole to bring up this target. My heat leapt when the sand filtered out of the scoop and there was a man's ring and it looked like a wedding band with engraving inside!

My first ring ever! Woo hoo, ye-ha and all that stuff!

Although I thought I thought it might be a gold band in the scoop, as soon as I picked it up, it was clear it was light and turned out to be titanium. The ring said "Always & Forever" inside... Pretty ironic as it was rolling around in the surf a long time before either. Cleaning it off later, The center of the ring became free and revealed this is one of those rotating band rings. Very cool.

I looked for it on the Internet and it seems that it is also a diamond ring... No kidding... There is a small dot in the band and online I learned the thing has a 0.01 carat diamond. My drill bits have bigger chips. After knowing to look for it, I can confirm that it is actually present.

Look at the little dot in front... that is the diamond.

No really...

Wow, my first ring is a diamond ring. Ha... Wish it were apparent it had a diamond. Anyway, this one will have a special place for me.

I'm hooked!

Thanks guys it was a fun find. I spent about 10 minutes in the sand and pulled out five quarters, one dime, one penny and... a Thomas Jefferson presidential gold dollar. How many gold dollars are out there in circulation, let alone in the sand?!?

Can you tell me what it came up as on your detector? I threw mine down and went over it and it showed as a nickel.

Yes, it was at the high end of a nickel. Good solid and repeatable.
