Default Second half of June

Twice a month I post my finds and say "the next two weeks should get better".

Here is the last half of June. Fresh water beaches, mostly waist-chest deep. A little dry sand hunting when the conditions are right.

Even though I go out every day (sometimes from 5-7 AM, sometimes late afternoon/early evening for two hours), I have yet to see another hunter in the water this year. Dry sand, sure, as many as five at a time. So you'd think I'd be cleaning up. Well, I am. Cleaning up bottlecaps and pull-tabs. And hoop earrings. I just think this area doesn't have the right type of beach-goers. We get a lot of partying kids, and I know exactly where they hang out both in and out of the water, and still fresh drops are just not there. Last year I was finding gold by sight this time of year.

So here is the big pic. As always, this shows about 10% of the junk since most of it goes directly to the trash.

The good (relative to pull tabs, anyway) stuff: Hoop earrings, a wrist bangle, $4.77 in clad, a leather and pot-metal magnetic clasp bracelet, a paste clip-on earring, a nice plated heart pendant, a little paste hippie peace pendant, and a whopper of a stainless band. Sucker is a size 14. I stuck it on my thumb when I found it.

Since there is no gold or silver this post, the "cigar pic" will have to be the big stainless.

That's all for now. I'm pretty sure things will pick up in the next two weeks.

You've done well considering that it looks like you are hunting in a place frequented by people who haven't a lot to lose.

It seems to be a developing trend these days, that resort areas are producing fewer fresh drops and the ol swimmin holes are producing almost none!

Even coin count is down compared to years past.

5 hours of hard hunting in local waters produced 40 targets a couple of days ago and not one piece of silver or gold. There were two new pennies and a couple of nickles that will clean up, but the rest were old, useless clad and several pennie wafers fit only for copper scrap!

This weekend through next weekend is the most productive time of year locally especially since we are having hot weather.

This beach area is also the swimming place for people without much to lose. I do dream of hunting a "resort area" one day just to experience such a hunt once in my life!!

GL&HH Friend,

CJ
