Default Sealed my Garrett pin pointer with silicone

So I seen a lot of people trying a ton of different things to seal the Garrett PP. I had a brand new one in my hands and decided I did NOT like how loud it is. I decided to tape around the hole so I would not make a mess around the hole. Some blue painters tape and a razor blade later just the holes are exposed. (I did not tape the whole PP just a piece 3 in long or so. Now here's the key I used the black stuff you get at autoparts store that RESISTS OIL and is dark
Grey. It seems to work the best out of all the silicones I use at my shop. All you have to do is put a drop big enough to fill the holes and smooth it over. I use a latex glove because I hate cleaning silicone off my hands. After you smooth it over so it's flush 1 or 2 wipes let it dry over night. In morning peel tape and use. First thing you notice is the sound is cut at lease in half. Now the whole park does not think you have some annoying beeping device( yes they are annoying) bothering people, it's rude.

So besides the beeping noise being more tolerable I also noticed that it waterproofs the unit very well. I have had it in a few streams under water and it is holding up great. I wanted to try it a few months to make sure it's been holding up. Also I put a dab of vasaline on the "o" ring in the batt compartment to help seal it. Been using that on pool seal for years and keeps the "o" ring fresh.

Also the speaker should be ok as it's just piezo style with a felt cover which would keep out any silicone unless you mashed a bunch inside. I used a drop about a 1/2 in long.

was wondering how to stop the noise, it is a bit anoying and in tot lots when it beeps the kids come running. I recently switched from the the whites bullseye2 to the GPP and both have pros and cons, the BE2 did me well since 08 when i bought it new, picked up the GPP and a lesche on this site to have a backup or loaner...thanks for the tip GL+HH.....cliff.

I went from bullseye to Garrett and I would never go back. I gave it to my boy and he even prefers mine. Lol. The only thing lacking with the whites is depth. I only get 3/4-1 inch unless its big. I might even try gluing the whites but the battery lid would not keep out water when submerged so probably useless.

hope it works out for you. I like the sound the garrett PP puts out. I wear headphones while detecting and when im pinpointing the headphones stay on and beeping of the PP works out fine for me because the phones muffel the noise. Had the PP for 4 months now and have a few hours on it, wonder how i ever detected without one prior to that. I good investment for sure..

I did a how to on water proofing the pointer..
You may also want to put a dab of clear silicone over the light.. They have been known to take on water and short out.. Congrats..

After years of driving farm equipment, collecting and shooting guns, living under the flight line of a major aircraft company and airbase, and time in Vietnam, my hearing isn't what it used to be. The Garrett or any other pinpointer never has seemed loud to me. I can't hear them with my headphones on anyway. I put a double layer of yellow duct tape around mine to make it easier to spot if lost. I just happened to place it over the speaker and it muffled it to where you can barely hear it. I always go by the vibration anyway.

i just used electrical tape over my speaker hole, this seems to quiet it down nicely plus keeps dirt and moisture out

Spent 3 years sleeping right under the flight deck on an aircraft carrier so with my hearing loss the PP isn't loud at all to me.

I need and like the sound of the PP.
Vibration does help, but us old detectors need the sound as well.
