Default **Updated**Big Night, 94 coin spill including silver....

A night that started with disappointment sure changed to almost a eye popper.

Left the house at about 3:40 and arrived 35 minutes later at the location that I found $33.32 in clad this previous weekend. Well there would be no hunt on this location as there was a soccer tournament in progress with all four fields with games going on and hundreds of people up and done the sidelines. I decided to head to this communities high school about six blocks away only to see here too soccer games were being played. I went around to the backside of the school and found this area empty of people. Areas of the parking lot were tapped off and ticket booths were opened so I decided not to hunt the ball fields leaving only the old renovated football field left as an option. Actually all that was left was one side of the track that ran around the field and the grandstand. The sideline strip was about half the field in length, but only 15 feet wide. I was doing okay on this strip and held a little over $6 in clad when I saw people starting to fill the old bleeches and then noticed ball players and knew my hunt here was finished. So off I went to my next location.

This location was a small neighborhood park. The contents of the park is a overgrown ball field, a very small tot lot and a open shelter that held three picnic tables. What stood out at this location is the several large mounds that surrounded the shelter on three sides and a couple smaller mounds that stood along the front of the shelter and the totlot. The area where I entered the park from was open with several older larger trees.

My third dig at this site gave me the 62 Rosie and set the tone for the rest of the evening. While I was finding a few coins as I meandered about the treed area of the park. I kept looking for an area that held a little more in coinage and still hoped to add to the silver count. Getting further into this site I could see there was not anybody at all by the play area or the shelter and decided to head over that way. Well as I made my way that direction I kept finding a few coins so I dug as I went and by time I got their several young kids arrived and then parents and grandparents with more kids. I decided I would dump my trash and work the bottom of these hills back to the treed section at the back of the park. On the return trip along these hill I kept getting signals and added several more coins to the count. This included a couple of pocket spills. One held 2 quarters,2 nickles and a dime and another three quarters stacked upon themselves. I also had refilled my trash bag. I shut off my machine, dumped the trash and went back to the truck to empty my pocket of my finds.

Returning to where I had stopped I checked my phone in case Jill called and then the time 7:45.First signal I hit a quarter signal at about four inches and out came the butane lighter. Upon standing up a went about three feet and again hit a quarter signal between 4 to 5 inches. This time it was a quarter, about six inches from that dig The etrac repeated the sound and again another quarter this went on the rest of the night as I would stay withing a 15ft square box. To call this a spill I don't know it would be right but after digging 22 clad quarters I hit the same signal at the same depth and this time the shine of silver had me doing a happy dance on my knees four quarters later another silver quarter was at the bottom of my hole. This went on as I went back and forth over this small section and there was no more signals. the total count was 94 coins including 7 silver quarters, 83 clad,2 nickels and 2 pennies. It was now after 9pm and dark. I really wonder how all these quarters came to this small location. The newest of the coins was 1986. All were 4 to 5 inches in depth including the nickels and pennies. Several of the coins were under shallow tree roots and only dug maybe tree times with more than one quarter in a hole. They seemed to be spread fairly evenly over the small area.

Grand totals for the night came to $35.49 ($20.87 from the spill) in clad and 8 Silver coins. This is a new record by far for me in silver for a hunt. Sorry for being so long winded but I am flying high and can hardly wait to get back to this park. Jack

Went back to the Park this morning early to see if I really had a new honey hole, I hunted it hard for 7 hours with some success but it sure did not measure up to the production of last Sunday night. I also made a promise to post a couple pictures of the site and location of the large spill.

I did find another silver coin a "60" Rosie so I feel real good about that. Also found a large copper ring that is actually stamped copper. I never new that was done. Added a "Matchbox" Tractor to my collection of vehicles. This one is in pretty good shape. Found another watch a Timex that had rotting leather strap band but they fell off. Said on the back to be water resistant to 50 meters. The clad count was boosted by a couple of the presidential dollars giving me a total for the day of $25.24. Hope you enjoy the pics. Jack

No kidding that's a nice haul. Since it's the black hole for quarters check and see if all my missing socks are around there someplace. Congrats.

When you called last night, I knew it was good. That is an amazing score. You almost beat my year silver total in just one hunt and I'm still looking for my first silver quarter of 2012. What a night you had. Big congrats

I can't figure how 90 quarters were in such a small area and all at the same depth much less 7 silver quarters in the mix. But believe me I am certainly ecstatic and thankful about finding them. Jack

We got three rains over the weekend, while none of them were very heavy they were enough to make pretty easy digging. Just hope we get more soon so the scars heal. Jack
