Smile Sold my Sand Shark, got a MXT the next day and a gold ring the same night!

Hey there,

I gotta share this, I had bought a Tesoro Sand Shark and as some may remember, It wasn't for me, I regretted selling my MXT.. I mostly hunt the dry sand.. I sold it on Craigslist at a loss for $450 last friday night to a guy that's going to Hawaii and can use it better... then Friday evening I was browsing Craigslist and about lost my drink all over the computer.. there was a barely used MXT in excellent shape, plujs an unused Lesche Digger, metal long-handled beach scoop and White's Koss headphones on Craigslist for $425

I immediately called (at 11:30PM and left a message and also apologized).. then woke very early and called him at 7:45AM and got first dibs! It took an hour to get there, I got it and was so lucky to find that deal! He told me he had about 5 people call while I was driving there and I don't doubt it!

Then I went out detecting in Santa Cruz the same night and found an 18K gold ring, might be military and I am keeping hold of it to look for the owner for a week or two.. if someone can describe it in detail then they get it.. No response so far.. So I am including a blurry picture for now and will update later after two weeks...

Which was better? the ring or the MXT deal??

Here is the MXT and accessories I got (still very excited)

UPDATED: I left an ad on Craigslist for about 5 days and after researching the ring more I decided to remove the ad since it is very unlikely that anyone would claim it... I sold the ring to a gold buyer for $175 cash after keeping it a few weeks. Pays for my gas and expenses!

The ring ends up to be previously owned by someone in the Republic of Korea Marine Corps according to image searches on the Emblem which had an Eagle, Anchor and a Star. Also there was some korean writing and two dragons on each side... here are some better pictures...

Pretty interesting find! Not sure what to do with it now.. might be a collectors item?

Thanks for letting me share feels good

Default Mxt

The MXT deal was by far the best deal. I bought a 5 year old never used one for 450 a few months ago. The only thing that puzzles me is how Seabeeron missed that ring. Was it near the big pier?.....Gil

Yep, the MXT is a great machine, everywhere except the wet salt sands.

Nope, this ring was near the volleyball nets, actually about 20 feet towards the water from the nets.. Problem is.. I got this after about an hour of hunting and it charged me up so that I hunted until 1:10 AM.. didn't find any more jewelry but about $7.00 in change

I didn't see SeaBeeRon out there, saw lots of other people and they were swinging their detectors like amateurs and moving way too fast.. one person was swinging their coil about 6 inches off the ground... I stopped myself from going and saying anything.. more finds for me I guess? am I bad? LOL... I go much slower and try to overlap my swings and be patient, seems to be paying off..

$425 would be excellent for the pristine MXT alone.. but the stuff that came with it made it an eye-popping find and then a ring the same night..

Cheers

Great deal on the MXT and congrats on the ring . Props to you for trying
to return the ring. Any specific reason why you didn't like the sand shark?

The biggest reason the Sand Shark wasn't for me is because it is very susceptible to the terrible EMI at the Boardwalk at night, the MXT doesn't hear it at all.. Other than that it did quite well, but without the discrimination I was digging lots of iron !!!!. I kinda switched from MXT to Sand Shark on a whim thinking I was missing the wet sand, but after digging the wet sand a while I learned quick that it's much harder, slower and I didn't find near what I found on the dry sand so my reason for getting it was defeated.

I did so much better with my MXT on relic mode.. in the dry sand it's like night and day.. I love the headphone options on the MXT vs the piezo ones on the Sand Shark.. the KOSS ones I got with the MXT are soft and totally cover my big ears..

However the guy that bought it from me is going to love the Sand Shark cause he's going to use it for what it's meant for.. underwater in Hawaii!

I also like that I can use my MXT at the beach, in the park, in the gold fields, everywhere.. so many reasons I am glad to be back with my baby

Both those were eyepopping! Only thing is you should change your name to lost cat because of where you live. And you may look like a cat scratching at a litterbox sifting for those gold ticketo's in the sand.Only difference is you are uncovering the nuggets

Yeah that is funny since I live in Los Gatos... Not sure you can change your forum name without creating a new account and losing your stats.

I may be heading out to the beach again tonight this time with the wife who is jealous of my detector.. not sure I will get to detect much ~
