Day 2 with the new Super 12 coil was to be for the purpose of comparing it against the stock coil. The idea was to find a good deep hit with the Super 12 then switch to the stock coil and compare. Along with this I would change up programs as well. The area I chose was under another tightly grouped bunch of Old Spruce trees. They stretched out for about 100 feet along side the pond in the park. This area is at the center of the oldest part of the park. I searched along the trees and the grass-line just at the edge of the boughs and under the trees themselves. I have probably walked and hunted this area 5 or 6 times in the last 8 months. I found a nice Wheat the first time I hunted this spot with the stock coil. So I started to swing at the first tree and within 5 minutes I had a solid VDI of 82. It pinpointed to 7 inches! Now this is where my plan fell apart. I did switch programs to one I use with the stock coil (DaveZ's) and still got a great reading of 82. So I am excited and dug without switching coils!
I have no discipline. 6 inches down was another 1946 Silver Rosie, just like the one I had found the day before. With just an hour and a half to hunt I abandoned my comparison of coils and had the time of my life. All of the following coins were at 5 to 6 inches...![]() At this point I believe the Super 12 coil makes a huge difference in the sensitivity and depth of the DFX. Sure I could have just missed these coins the first 6 hunts but, in less than 3 hours over 2 days I have found 5 old keepers in a place that has been hunted to death. You tell me? I will at some point try to compare the 2 coils again. The weekend is approaching and the old park is a big place. I have a feeling that I am gonna be sore by the end of the weekend! keep Swing'in Jack __________________ |

Jack,
I look forward to hearing about your weekend experiences. I am using a Super-12 on my MXT, but don't have a lot of hours with it yet. Just like you, I started finding "keepers" right away, and I haven't begun to take real advantage of the extra depth capabilities yet. Before purchasing mine, I was told that the coil is less sensitive to coin sized targets. In fact, this info caused me to delay the purchase. Only after reading online about experiences in "hunted out" areas did I decide to buy. Right away I found the coil to do fine with smaller objects, at least at depths of less than 6 inches so far. In only a few hours use, I have dug two silver pendants, a small silver ring, a large silver ring, a War Nickle, and some wheats in areas I have hunted before (but not thoroughly). Since this is my largest coil, I am using it in open areas for better coverage. I hope to visit a park this weekend looking for deeper "old stuff". I am very pleased with the coil so far... and now for the White's service plug. After using my coil a few times, it started to give a constant "overload" signal on my MXT at random times. I was able to duplicate the problem by moving the cable around at the housing entry point. I had a warranty replacement within a week including travel time across the country for both the original and replacement. I'm ready to go again. __________________ |

My dealer swears by the MXT / Super 12 combination. It's what he uses! I am going out early Saturday. It will be interesting to see if the coil comes through a third day in a row. I think with more time to hunt I will be more likely to do the coil comparison.
I have read that in general larger coils are not as sensitive to smaller targets. This was a concern for me also. I am very pleased so far. Keep Swing'in Jack __________________ |
