Default Pacific Northwest?

Any Pac Northwest beach hunters here? I live in Humboldt county and so far, my beach excursions have been fruitless. I have a theory.
I wonder if the best beach hunting locations are where people
a) shed clothes
b) lay around
and
c) jiggle, wiggle and squiggle

At our beaches here, these activities are rare. It's just too cold. Mostly, you see people walking slowly with several layers of clothes. Usually with dogs.

Am I just wasting my time at the beaches here?

Go where people are in the water. The ocean is too cold here for that.

That is why I travel.

I tried to hunt there ONCE! Nothing there but beach fire junk. In the middle of July people were at the beach in sweat suits sitting around drift wood fires. Not much to be lost in that type of environment. I did find an old surf fishing knife that I gave to another surf fisherman.

Default Cold beaches

Same problem here in Brookings, Oregon. In a mile of beach you might see half a dozen people on most days. They are not playing in the water or laying on the beach, they are looking for shells and walking their dog.

Hi there from the bay area! Ive go up yonder quite a bit. Only detected once at trinidad beach i think. Swung for what felt like hours without a single peep! Gotta give it to the hippys, they sure keep those beaches clean! I think youd be best off in one of the rivers where people like to swim when it gets hot, or an old swimming hole. I remember i talked to a local there who told me of an old logging ghost town where he knew some people who did really well there, i think it was just outside eureka somewhere. wish i could remember where it was...

Clothing optional is good. Lots of coins. Nada gold though.

Went out to Lincoln city and even with my 705 dd elliptical it was harsh with all the salinity and mineralization(massive black sand). Way to cold to get in that's for sure. I agree on the swimming holes with a waterproof detector. Be prepared to dig a lot of fishing weights and slaw.

Im over in Coos Bay and beach finds are pretty scarce also. I have had some luck where people tend to sunbathe, near the restrooms and a few finds drysand and waterline.

If you can research your area my best beach finds have been in the "older" areas. Where old vacation cabins or restaurants, bunkers or forts, where dance halls once stood or other festive gatherings occurred. A trip to your library or checking old local newspapers can give you a wealth of information.

As much as I enjoy searching the beach my best beach water finds come from freshwater lakes and rivers. I have detected some that I think I was the first because of the amount of coins/jewelery.

If you or Oregon Bob ever head this way hit me up for a hunt and GL!!

I have found fresh water lakes the place to hunt in WA State, unless you are in an area like Seattle.

Beautiful place fullstringer but what's missing in these photos? Not saying it's not there but your depositor rate looks "meager" to paraphrase Max.

The Oregon coast has many state parks that allow MD'ing on mowed lawns and developed picnic sites, anyone have any luck there?

Glad I saw this thread, I will be traveling south down the Oregon coast next week and it makes sense about the "too cold for gold" thing.

Lots of clad to be had at those parks..not many older coins. I have found a few jewelery items though (rare)

Be prepared most state parks require permits (they are free) but they only issue them on weekdays. Rangers patrol and ask for permits even on weekends.
