Default Michigan finds part 1.... 8 silvers, 3 indians, and hunting with Goes4ever!....

Hey everyone. I finally made it back to the homeland (Michigan) for a short week long vacation with my family. I have gotten out here and there for a couple hours at a time for the past 4 days.

I started off hunting a little one acre park in my hometown, with some luck. I have pulled 3 mercs and 8 wheats from there in 2 hunts.

Today, I met up with Goes4ever (Terry) in his neck of the woods and boy am I glad I made the 240 mile drive to meet him. I had a blast and G4E, sure is one stand up guy. We had a lot of fun door knocking and going to the "challenge field" for some skill testing. Thanks again for the invite and it was great to finally meet up with you. We will definitely have to do it again when I get back over this way.

I ended up with 5 silver for the day and 16 wheats. I also pulled 3 Indian head pennies which doubles my total for dug indians!

I pulled the button from a really old house and when I looked at it, Terry and I both thought it was going to be an 1800's era military button. Alas, I am not so lucky and it appears to be from a WW1 military jacket. If anyone has further info, please let me know.

Well here are my finds!

Greg,
Sounds like you are having a great time. It was fun hearing about your day when you called. Congrats on the finds and hope you find a few more before your trip is over!

Jason - Thanks, it has been a great trip. I have been pretty successful with the amount of detecting time I have had. Since I have been doing well, I have been spending more time with the kids and family and not as much time detecting.

Capt - Thanks, I have been pretty lucky with the amount of finds I have been getting. It was great meeting up with a fellow forum member and learning a few tricks from a fellow enthusiast.

Terry - I had not cleaned the indians up yet, but will do so this afternoon. I will post more pics when I get them cleaned up.

Again, thanks for the posts guys!

Greg

Sometimes it can be more exciting finding pennies then silver dimes. As in when the pennies are much older than the silver and fewer of them than the silver. I don't think I get as excited about finding the coins as I once did. But then again I been detecting off and on since 1973 . I am still very happy with old coin finds and silver coins.
Wondered how you guys did on door knocking. Meaning how many said sure go ahead and how many said no. Were the ones saying no polite or upset you bothered them?
My detecting buddies and myself are thinking of starting to knock on doors too.

Must be easy out there Terry. Me and Burnt did some door knocking around me in Delaware and every single one said no. One guy even answered the door in a robe and tighty whities saying "You got some nerve coming on my property and knocking on my door to ask a stupid question like that. Now get the f*** off my property" It ain't easy around here...

Excellent finds Greg. Good to see you got some indians...

Paul - Thanks, It was definitely worth the trip.

Michael - It was an eye opening experience. Terry has his "schtick" to get folks to let them detect their property and it works great. Be straight forward, know what you are going to say, and have back up rhetorical for their questions or concerns.

Shawn - Thanks, it was great getting some indian heads. Now I know why Terry has so many!

CoinMD64 - I was on the eastern side of the state and only hunted a couple parks in my local town. My little tiny park produced 20's and 30's wheats and 4 mercs from 1923 - 1945.

Poke - I was hunting north of metro Detroit area. Unfortunately, I can only detect these area's while I am back in Michigan and like having some places to go when I visit the family. There are many old parks in the Detroit area, research is key to finding the good spots!

Z - Thanks, it was a great trip.

Milco - Thanks, had fun meeting up with G4E.

Con - Post in the general section, there are many Michigan detectorists looking for hunting partners.

Andy - Thanks, and yes it is a 1916 no mintmark though....

Tex - Thanks, wish I would have had more time to detect.

WildDigger - Thanks, and no there was no mintmark. Was exciting to see it in the plug though with that 1916 staring at me!

Greg
