Default Gratifying find

I love detecting.

I love finding silver and relics.

But every once in awhile you get something that stands out as extra gratifying.

Well here is one for me. It isn't in the best shape, but I just love thinking about the history of it and how it came to be where I found it.

It is my new oldest silver.

1852 3 cent, found at a house built in 1906. Were these still circulated that late? I thought I've read they were only circulated until around the civil war.

Nice hit!

III cent pieces come in 2 flavors; copper and silver, and yours looks like the silver variety.

Very small, very thin and very uncommon to dig. I've only dug one (also silver) in all my years of hunting, and mine has some pitting on the crescent side.

I have no idea about their circulation history, but you might want to look into what the property or area was used for prior to 1906.

There's the 3-cent silver and the 3-cent nickel. I remember the first time I heard the term "3-cent nickel" I had to get it clarrified.

Congrat's on one of those "you just don't see them found that often" coins!

Big congrats on the three. We don't see very many of them dug on here. A special find indeed.

Thanks everyone. I was quite a thrill.

It was only about 3-4'' deep, and was hitting like an Indian. I had just dug 3 indians, so figured it was going to be a forth. Quite a suprise, I just stared at it for a min until it sunk in what it was

I have it on video on youtube, just search detectoral.

We may get some rain tonight. It was has been really dry. If so I'm going to try to get back there this week and see what else I can pull!

I went last night to another site and pulled 2 bullets from a civil war battle. One miniball and one musket ball. Should have that video up soon too.
