Default NEL coil for x terra question

has anyone used the NEL 5" sharp coil? If so what are your thoughts and did you compare it to the 6" minelab coil? I am looking at getting the 6" minelab HF coil or the NEL 5" to complete the set for my Xterra.

The NEL is an MF DD, and might be great depending on what you're trying to do, and where you're trying to do it. It should separate better than the 6" MF from MineLab, should give more honest IDs than the HF, and should see deeper than the 6" HF DD from MineLab. But if gold is the objective, the 6" HF is what you'll want.

It's a newly introduced coil, so I don't know that there are enough out there yet to expect much in the way of feedback.

I also feel compelled to add that NO coils made by NEL are approved by MineLab for use on the Xterra. The Coiltek 15" WOT is the only licensed aftermarket Xterra coil available.

Any word here in the states if these are working or not? I have seen that sharp nel coil as well and wondering about it and the others. I know they are not licensed but if minelab is turning the nose on us lower end units then I will look else where for coils that are in demand.

I am partial to the Minelab coils. This is not due to experience, I just like the coils made by the company that made the detector. However if the NEL coils out perform the Minelab coils then I might be interested in getting one. This raises a problem, why would Minelab not make the best coils possible? I would think it is in their best interest to do so, to keep the competition from cutting into their profits. So are the NEL coils that much better?

The biggest part of the issue with the company, is that the chip technology used in V-flex coils is patented, and NEL hasn't legally obtained the chip specs from MineLab.

Are they as good or better? Maybe. Though I seriously doubt better. But what they appear to be doing is filling the gaps in the coil lineup that MineLab hasn't yet addressed.

So the question becomes, "Do you support and reward a company for stealing from another company?" or "Do you contact the OEM and voice your opinion directly to them, as productive feedback from an owner?"

There are coils that I crave. And I won't say that I wouldn't buy one that wasn't approved. But be aware.....

Thanks Longhair, that's my general impression also, and one of the major reasons I prefer the OEM coils. I cant imagine the other ones are that much better.
