Default Help with a bottle thing

Found it in a 30's dump, 5 inches.

I believe it is one piece of a protective cover for something, like a syringe, scalpel, some other sharp or delicate object. It looks like the bottom is flanged to slide over a base or whatever the male part was. It is elongated I am guessing partly so it doesn't roll off the table when you set it down or possibly just because of the shape out of whatever it protected.
