Default Garrett AT Pro vs Fisher F5

The title says it all. Which one? I hunt jewelry and I coin shoot. Sometimes beaches.

I know nothing about the F5, I'm sure others will chime in about it. I can tell you the AT is a great machine. You should read the AT manual and the F5 manual online and that might help you with a decision on which to buy. For the first time I took my AT in a local swimming pond this past Saturday. Even though I didn't submerge the control box because I still had my cordless headphone transmitter attached to it, it was nice to know that I didn't have to worry about it getting splashed from kids or boat waves. I really like the fact that the AT is waterproof to ten feet.

Thanks for the feedback. I never thought about reading the manuals though. Cool.

The AT seems to have a lot of fans.

I dont think there are going to be a lot of people using both of them...your going to get pro or anti based on ownership or none ownership.....my md club has two at pro owners and 3 f5 owners that i know of and maybe 20 mxt owners....and id never put the mxt next to the at pro, but im an at pro owner and im sure an mxt owner would say the same thing about the mxt...its all what you want from a detector, the at pro has the waterproof for good river checking but if your not going near or in water thats a bit of a pointless need, the amateur std and the pro are great for the learner but if your not learning then thats pointless too so then you have good sensativity, notching, iron discrimination which the f5 has too so then its down to sound, the at pro has the three definates of low tone iron, midtone gold, foil ringpulls and high tone silver, coins.

Also the weight, the at pro is under 3lbs with the batteries in, one of the lightest detectors out there, the mxt feels like a cinder block comparred to it and the small coil/large coil are great on the at pro, having used the sniper yet as im not surrounded by that much trash but the parks trash gets eaten through by the small 5x8 coil

Default Atpro vs f5

I have both machines and love both of them!I think the ATPRO goes alittle deeper and I can get her wet... but the F5 is very close but just can't get her wet all the way..When I hunt I take both of them with me..I hunt relics and beaches and do very well with both of them. I have 3 different coils for both of them. If I had to choose just one machine I would get the ATPRO cause I can get the ATPRO WET...Live in florida...Both Are Great Machines !!! Hope this helps some...FLDRTDGR...The Florida Dirt Digger...

I was debating the same detectors and went with the AT Pro. No regrets this is an awesome machine and it can go swimming!

Matter of fact my AT will be submerged most of the summer. There are thousands of swimming holes in Michigan & I'm just getting started!

Thanks everybody! I have decided to get an AT Pro. It will be very nice upgrade from my Bounty Hunter SharpShooter 2. No more trash detecting for me.

I wouldn't go that far. Actually, your AT will be better at finding trash, however, you should also find better items to balance out the trash. Your gonna love the AT.
