Found this square piece of metal about 2 feet underground near a stream. Had been finding a lot of .22 rifle shells and a pice of metal that looked like it had bullet holes came up next to it. The clips are still in the piece which I thought was odd and the clips attached have a stamp of T1221 and T1222.
I was thinking it may be an old target to shoot at but I have no idea! I know it's probably just junk but I am just curious to know if anyone knows what it could be. When I google the stamp number, a ton of musical instruments come up. Help a brother out! Thanks!!! Last edited by noob; 05-12-2012 at 08:59 PM. Reason: add pics |

those clips look like they're stainless steel which would explain why they're still there and not rusted away.
i'm not sure what it was though. maybe part of some sort of screen or filter cover for something. maybe from an old furnace or air vent. ![]() Pete __________________ |

it's a part from inside old cathode ray tube TV or monitor.
Springs on the side are ment to touch the conductive layer of the neck of the tube. Something like number 9 from this pic, shown from the side. http://www.freepatentsonline.com/6548955-0-large.jpg __________________ |

you guys are awesome! So about 3 feet from my deck i dug up a 4 cylinder engine this afternoon!!! I have no clue when or who made it but it does have concrete on the back of it, like it was poured on it to fill a crack.
The engine was about 2.5 feet down and it just completely shocked me it had been under there for years! I have lived here since the early 90's. Been doing hours of research to try to figure out who makes it but no such luck. It is definitely not aluminum and the closest thing I can find that looks similar is a tractor engine... |

So here are some pics of the engine block I found. Starting to get frustrated finding only huge hunks of iron and pieces of garbage.
I found an old swimming hole/park that was popular from 1925-1945 and found an interesting piece there. I will upload a picture of that also. There was a huge water slide there in 1925 made by a company called FunFul. This is a step off of the slide that used to stand in 1925. |

That is a cool find from that park. you should find some good coinage there too.
Any readable markings on the engine block?? __________________ |

Check the left side of the engine for the data plate. This is a Flat Head 4 cylinder motor. Looking forward, the crankshaft pointing toward you look on the left side for the data plate. This looks like and old Ford or Ferguson tractor engine. Gas burner made in the early 50's. Look up Ford 8N or Ferguson TO-30 tracters. Cool find!

So after painstakingly removing concrete and scrubbing this engine, I found it is a Ford Model T engine. I am working on getting the serial numbers visible in order to date it and find out exactly when this was made.
Wow I was totally in shock when I figured this out!!! |

Figured out finally after scrubbing the plate and being able to read most of the numbers, it is a 1922 Ford Model T engine block...
Being that I also found a rear motorcycle rim made in the 40s by some Italian company, I think a mechanic lived here back in the 40s or so... I'm going to like dig up my entire yard, who knows, could find an old Harley or something!! |
