Default Floating water sifter?

I was looking at Kellyco's site and noticed a floating sifter.

http://www.kellycodetectors.com/acce...ccessories.htm

It is a plastic gold pan sifter zip tied to a rubber inner tube. Does anyone have any experience with this sort of device? It looks like it would speed things up but I am not sure it is worth $29.

A $8 gold pan sifter, some zip ties and a $2.50 floaty ring might be an alternative if it will be of use.

Yes, that was the first water sifter we tried.

Ummm... it didn't work for us though. It tips over too easy when you dump a scoop of rocks and clay in it. It was too small and bouyant.

Maybe if you just scoop sand into it, it would work, but by the time I pull my water scoop out of the water, the sand has already fell through anyway.

We wound up making our own water sifters out of chicken wire, 1x2's and construction foam. Notice we used a smaller mesh on one side to catch small stuff like 22 cal bullets and post earrings

I went to the Tire center and got a used 14" Inner Tube.
At the Dollar Store I got the Biggest Plastic bowl.
Drilled holes in the Bottom and 3" up the Side.
Zippy Tied it into placed, Tied on a Rope Handle.
Used it once, it's a good idea, I perfer my Scoop.
I enjoy trying to making some of my own Tools.

I have to be honest though... I rarely use the sifter as its a PITA and I only use it on beaches with clay and mud bottom and I rarely hunt them.. it gets in the way of digging or the rope gets around my detector or sometimes my detector picks it up... I rather go without it... oh yeah its something else to carry down to the beach...

Thanks for all the input. I will skip making one this year. I am on my first trip to the beach next week and I don't want to be wishing I had brought something along.
