Gold plated, I see a star on obverse, guess 19 century and intended for higher social class

Could be as old as 1840's. Really finely made button.

Okay,, I am not really a button guy.. I have never even found one..however when i was searching online i could not find any photos of this exact button, i did however find some nice descriptions about the pattern and possibly what kind of button it could have been..

"The only documented unique insignia worn by Florida soldiers was a six-pointed star, similar to a spur. It was used on early flags, buttons, and used as hat insignia. To their dismay, Florida soldiers were sometimes mistaken for Texans with their 5-pointed stars."

I could be way off base, i do not know. i know even finding another button that is marked both "Extra Rich" and " super fine" is proving difficult.

After some digging those two w's seems to indicate that the maker is Wadham & Webster and date range is 1838-1846. Most likely a civilian button.

i agree with Voriax but it looks like the very early two piece version ( usually bigger than most two piece and a little more flatter too) definately 1830's and also civilian.

Default Backmark is mid-1800's

The backmark is one of the more common higher-quality button makers of the mid-1800's. I will have to go through my references, but I think we can track this one down. I've seen one before.
