Default Rock I Can't ID

found this in the Copper Country. 1 1/2" x 1" x 1/2". weighs just under 3.5 oz.
not magnetic.
there are bright silvery strands inside of the grooves in the sides and on top. there are also faint grey lines "inside" of the rock. the actual color is a very pale yellow.
I hit it with a hammer and where the hammer struck it, it turned the same bright silvery color as the already exposed areas.
was thinking it might be hematite under there...

The host rock looks like quartz. From your description, my first thought is that the dark sivery streaks are graphite.

..Some kind of Sedimentary rock it looks like to me... you could always break a piece off with a hammer and use the Mohs Hardness scale to try and identify it, once you nail it down to a specific type, you could search for what minerals generally are the most common that develop in your area for that type of formation.

yah I was thinking that too Dubay. I smacked the !!!! out of it with a hammer. Then switched to a hammer/chisel. all it did was scrape off the top and expose the silvery stuff under. the top layer is very thin. hematite and manganite are pretty abundant up here, but doubt it's either one of those. I'll have to see if I can break off a hunk.

Quite often, fakers of indian artifacts will scrape their piece with a piece of metal. This will leave a slight trace of the metal behind. After being in the elements for a while, the trace will rust, thus leaving a seemingly evident proof of the artifacts legitimacy.
