It looks like a very interesting machine, but I am relieved that it isn't making me regret the 705 I have coming on Saturday.

I'm sure it is midnight. I'm surprised they didn't stay with the Etrac/Explorer style battery...Probably needed a redesign to help keep it water tight. Time will tell, if it were that price I'd give it a go....after it's been on the market a bit, of course....

Exactly! The Sovereign GT has got to be dead. The sales of the Excalibur just went in the toilet. As far as the Etrac? Still don't know what FBS2 is.

With the coil that looks the same I doubt more depth. Maybe faster recovery?

Smartfind 2?

I run the E Trac pretty much wide open now adays. Discrimination on the E Trac is not a problem. Either is depth.

And it does look like a weedeater.

I don't need a GPS.

I just need a screen that I can see. It didn't have to be color.

I bet we are looking at 2000.00 easy. And that is negotiated.

But there will be one without GPS.

I'm going to stay away from predictions Minelab detectors like Excalibur being history. Most people are not going to be willing to pay double for the same capabilities they care about. Beach hunters don't need built in GPS to know what spots they are going to hunt.

If Minelab discontinues their existing price points in an effort to social engineer sales it will simply push people to the competition.

Man I hope not, if that's the case I won't see one for quite a while...

This detector seems to directly target the European relic hunting market, especially the GPS feature.

This new Minelab detector seems cool and all, but Minelab doesnt understand, what lightweight means and if that thing cost 2000-3000 dollars, it just made Xp Deus sound affordable.

If its in the $3500 range I will buy one May 28th..

I hope they did it right with the water tight thing, and learned a lesson watching Garretts ATPro waterproofing issues, because from what I hear sending a machine to Minelab for repair can take longer than some inmates sit on death row.

I also hope it doesnt say "Serious Detecting" across the screen like the Explorers/Etracs do when you turn them on because it's corny and stupid

In my opinion, we might be missing the point all together...

Never mind the colour screen, wireless audio, GPS or the mapping,
these are all features which easily fit in that slime control box...

Like everyone noted what stands out is the large battery case and
large battery = large power supply = large power consumption = PI

What if the CTX3030 combines VLF with PI technology?
quote from Bruce Candys US Patent 8063777 of November 22, 2011
------------------------------------------------------------------
[...]where the operator is able to [...] select different waveforms
[...] examples [...] being time-domain, square-wave, sine wave [...]
if I'm not mistaken, then...
time-domain .....means PI technology
square-wave ....means multi-frequency technology
sine wave ........means VLF technology
I don't know if above mentioned patent is the one for the CTX3030, but
it would explain the large battery, and as waterproofing would allow salt
water detecting a machine which can be switched to PI if needed would
be better suited...

Back on land you could switch it back to Multi-frequency for
relic hunting, or single VLF, and/or, PI for Gold Prospecting...

Just a thought
