So, my husband and I both have our own list of coins we're hoping to find metal detecting. For example, we're both hoping to find our first buffalo nickel. But my husband decided to just bypass that today and go straight for the V nickel - a 1902 liberty head V nickel, to be exact. Couldn't believe it when I saw it. This is our oldest coin to date. He also found a 1942 wheat penny. The day was a wash for me, finding only clad and scrap metal. But, just seeing that V nickel made it all ok

The V nickel is one of my favorite coins. It is just so darn classy - a beautiful design. Most of the ones I dig here in Maine are really corroded... I'm lucky to get a date on them... I would love to dig one that looked that nice! Way to go!

Very nice! ~
My first really old coin was a 1912 V nickel, I agree they are gorgeous coins like most all of the early coins of America. __________________ |

Very nice, and it cleaned up really well. What did you use to clean it?

I soaked it in olive oil for a few hours and then rinsed and dried
