Default Navy Button?

Hmmm... I though I posted this already but now I don't see it?

Anyway...

I dug this button at a schoolyard. It is in rough shape, the back is a mass or rusted metal. Any ideas how old it may be or who would have worn it?

Thanks!

In my opinion it is Navy. How old, I couldn't say. Here is a picture of the button used on current Dress Navy uniforms to compair it to.

Looks a bit like this Civil war era "extra quality" button

They haven't changed much over the years. The obvious difference being the turn of the eagles head. I agree that it certainly looks to be the type that you show Voriax

Here's a picture of the back... The piece that the thread would go through is visible, but the entire inside is filled with rust crud. should I bother trying to get it out? It seems pretty well caked in there.

Also, are there any good resources to determine an age for this Navy botton?

Thanks!
