Default 16 Silver, 60 Wheat Day!! Sore Muscles, Calloused Hands, 308 Silver, YTD!

Hello My Friends!!

This past week I went hunting at a couple local parks and a couple not so local. I hunted with Greg(GStout76) and Mike (Dana Point), in addition to hunting solo. My final tally on the four hunts was 26 silver coins, over 160 wheats, two silver bracelets, an 1897 Injun, a couple of tokens, and about 50-60 quarters and other clad. My most productive of the 4 hunts was a 16 Silver, 60 wheat day. It was a long hunt, and I was tired/sore after digging so many plugs. On that hunt, I only needed 7 more silver coins to reach 300 for the year, but I got into a hot spot and ended up finding more than I had hoped for.

One of the tokens is an Andrew Jackson presidential token, and the other is a first for me. It says "Igorrote" with a native's head on one side and the words "Souvenir Of The Dog Eaters" on the other. I found out that the Igorrote was a tribe in the Phillipines that actually ate dogs. For further reading about this tribe, here's a link, which contains an excerpt from a Lewis and Clark journal in 1905 on the Igorot tribe:
http://www.ohs.org/education/oregonh...AF80B05272FE9F

All in all, it was another great detecting week, and my silver fix has been satisfied.

Thanks for viewing!
Keep the great finds coming and the Passion High!!

HH,
Raphis
Dan

Default Wow

If you dig everything up in one season , you won't have any for next year:Man those are some great totals. I would love to stumble over some spots like that. Alot of places around here are hunted to death. Your lucky if you pull 1-3 a day(silver). Keep it up. COngrats.

Thanks, guys!!

Jason, the SLQ is a "slicky".....no date.
Charlives, I found a couple of '09 pennies, but neither had the "S" or vdb on them. Just a lot of common silvers/wheats.

Fred, you wouldn't believe how many Explorer/E-Trac hunters are in my local area. If I left deep targets in the ground for next time, there might not be a next time for me. If I hear it, I'm digging it. I've been thinking this to myself also about not having anything left to dig next year, but over the past 4.5 years, I've average over almost 500 silver/yr.....but, you're right, there certainly is a lot less to find than there was 5 years ago in my area. I've just been having to drive further to find the "oldies". There really was a lot to find, though, in my area....lots and lots of 20's-50's coinage.

I emptied my trash pouch out a few times on my hunt yesterday. I don't dig rusty bottlecaps (they don't give me a good signal to dig on my Explorer). The deep, crushed screw caps from wine bottles fool me a lot of the time. I also dig a good amount of old sprinkler parts that are made of brass. Those are heavy items, and I want to empty my pouch out when I find those. As for aluminum, I did find some larger pieces of folded up cans yesterday. I dig the occasional beaver tail and pulltab also when I'm hoping for a gold ring.

Keep that stuff. $2+ per pound. I have 30-50lbs saved up in a bucket. I want to separate the copper and make 1 lb ingots. I can't find a 1lb copper ingot for less that $9 on the web, even though the commodity price is only $3/lb.

I wanna say I'm stunned but when I see it's you Dan I know it's the norm. I was on cloud nine with 6 in one day and you almost tripled that. Amazing hunt again bud. How do u clean ur wheats? I was tumbling them but it damages them to much. Can't even read some of the dates.

Thanks Captn, Sean, and Zee!
Ryan, thanks for that tip.
Sean, I don't do very much to my wheats.......I put them in a metal strainer, add a little liquid detergent, and just shake them around a little until the water runs clean.

That's a lot of silver. Congrats on your productive hunts. I have to ask are you hunting an old park, picnic grove, or fair grounds?
