Default My first quality find

After nearly giving up, I found my first 1800s coin.
I was in an old Pittsburgh park and had been hunting for 2-3 hrs, with just tabs being dug. I stopped at a small patch of grass on the way out of the park when I came across this beauty. I also found a small spill of 3 newer quarters within a foot of this.

1892 V

Default Beautiful!

Way to go! I read that the best way to clean these is by soaking it in olive oil. I'm trying that out with my first IH, too.

Congratulations!

That a nice looking V! Congrats! Most of mine have been so corroded I could hardly get a date off them! Where there's one, there's often more! Keep at it and happy hunting!

Very nice - my first and only V nickel was also an 1892 - found it 2 years ago with my bounty hunter. Locked in at a solid 5c reading.

Congrats on saving her. That's a sweet find. I don't always expect to find old coins in some of the places I go but I sure do love it when they pop up. Now go find some more!

Jeffersons, Buffs, V's and Shields all come up as a solid 58 nickel reading on my machine... unfortunately, so do shotgun shells (the old ones)...

Congrats. I'm still looking to break into the 1800's myself. closest I've come to it is 1900 Barber Dime.

I'm in no hurry to deal with Fisher right now. I'm waiting to buy it's replacement first. I'm leaning towards a Minelab Safari or AT Pro. If a good deal comes up for the Safari, I'll go with it.
