Repairing Fisher F2/F4 coil experience
Hey guys, I thought I would chime in on repairing the fisher F2/F4 coils.
DON'T.
They are manufactured in such a way that you can't open them unless you cut through the top. It will not separate into top and bottom pieces. Also, a little bit of advice...
When wrapping your coil, don't try to get it perfectly snug. A little slack in the coil will save you some money. The 8" and 10" concentric coil's cables are pretty weak at the spot where they physically go into the coil housing. Mine pulled out after 3-4 hunts. First it was bare exposed wires. Soon it was nothing but all the wires and shielding wrap. It will keep pulling free. Eventually my coil had a group of loose wire that would detect itself internally if you shook the coil at all. I found it fairly hard to detect like that. Since I had no warranty, (as I purchased this second hand) I decided to attempt a repair. These newer coils being made can't be separated. They are fused together. If faulty, they make a great tossing ring.
I'm about to order a replacement in a 10" instead of 8". I just thought I would warn you all about the dangers of not giving plenty of cable slack!!!
