Thumbs up My hotspot gave up more big silver yesterday. 3 halves! (pics)..

So yesterday I took some time off from work and went back to my "honey-hole" for a little detecting. This is the same place that has produced a double eagle, and lots of big silver coins.

For the past few weeks I've been hunting very slowly, all metal mode digging every signal.. But yesterday I decided to try my hand at cherry picking again. So I loaded up a slightly modified version of the Deep Silver program and went at it.

After about a half hour of swinging, I got a really iffy signal. It sounded "ok" in one direction, but was reading like iron in the other.. Since good signals are becoming more and more scarce at this site, I decided to dig it anyway. The ground was as hard as a brick, so in stead of cutting a plug, I had to just chip away at it with my digging tool. At about 3" I found a piece of an iron chain link. Pulled it out, swept the hole again and had a good signal this time, showing half dollar. I chipped another inch or two out of the hard ground and saw the edge of a big silver coin! Turned out to be a walking liberty half which was in great shape!

About 10 minutes later, just a few feet away from the first coin I got another iffy signal. Dug down a few inches and once again found some iron sitting practically right on top of another half! This time a barber! I plucked it out of the hole and still had a good signal. About an inch below it was yet another barber half! Not too shabby for less than an hour of hunting. I stayed for another hour or so but only dug iron junk.

It was nice to take a break from all metal mode and cherry pick for a while. Digging every single signal takes a loooong time to cover very little ground, plus its rough on the knees.

Very nice. I have a funny feeling by the time you are done there the ground is going to be very clean.

Just sickening. What kind of site is this? An old bank that was robbed a few times?

What a phenomenal place you have there. That soil looks like concrete though. Good job of getting them out of the ground without scratching them up.

Smile What Coin Shop are You Digging In??

Those are some seriously beautiful finds. I found one Barber half a few weeks ago and nearly fainted. Don't know what would happen if I found three silver halves in one day
