Default Old goat remembers

I passed another milestone a week or so ago - hit 90 thousand coins. This is for 27 years now. After 100 K I'll stop keeping records I think.

This was the coin at 90 K - Canadian dime. So you young guys & gals - keep a record for many reasons - steve in so az

Steve,

As a "numbers" guy, I hope you never stop keeping records. There's probably a lot of valuable info in your record keeping that could benefit the hobby.

Keep on keeping on!

Way to go! So how many different detectors have you had over the years, and have you always detected the same general area? Is it easier to find things today with better detectors, or was it easier in the past with fewer detectorists around?

Congratulations! That really IS a milestone. Looking back on all those finds (coins and non-coins), which one is your favorite?

Rich - Favorite coin was a silver dollar, 1879.

Ed - I have had my curerrent Fisher 1266 for about 12 years now (second one). Before that I used a Fisher 1265 - almost the same one - for about 8 years. Had a Compass and started on a whites originally. I cant imagine digging more than I am currently so I dont buy a newer one.
I've always detected Tucson, grew up here , except for occasional out of town/state trips. There are a few other guys detecting here that consistently get as much or more than me. One friend & his wife dug 150 coins this morning from a couple park's fields. They dont post much.
It is easier to find things with today's detectors. The old ones were a pain - having to raise it up and down to ground balance; minerals bothering it, etc. plus my Fisher goes really deep and sounds off loudly on soft signals.

Harley - I had thought of putting out a book of ideas or such from my years digging but it would take too much time away from detecting

Z - thanks - the highest praise is from one's peers !
steve

Steve, I'm curious as to the breakdown of the 90,000 coins. How many of each denomination?

Ark - dont really have the numbers for a breakdown. I'm doing good to have the basic numbers I do know that I dug a lot more pennies in my early years ( as well as a lot more silver coins) and have now dug a whole lot more nickels & gold in the last 11 years. They seem to go hand in hand. I have dug 160 solid gold items this last 5 years - almost all from tot lots, Steve

you plan on cashing them in all at once at the local bank? If you did, bring your video camera!

Amazing....simply amazing...and to think, the average dollar amount was probably $0.05.....so that would be......$4,500......
