After checking it out testing and checking it out and testing. I got advice on things to check. Trigger checked its fine, contacts one cleaned the rest fine. Thought the scrolling from possible emi was the cause, more like something warms up and it starts acting up with anything from scrolling the words for what is under the coil and partial VID numbers to 9 1/2 on the screen most of the time except if you trigger it a few times to clear it. It will sometimes after it sat for some time , read a coin you pass over with the coil telling what the coin is and then after 5 to 10 minutes it is back to acting up. That is what leads me to think something is getting warmed up in it. Battery still reads good charge so no drain on the battery. I wonder if I pull the chips out and put them back in if it will have a good effect on the detector. I have read that electrons build up in old chips and that manufactures give a certain life of use with the chips. With the Eagle ll being about 24 years old that plays on my mind . Would like to hear from electronic techs. I know you have to ground yourself before handling electronics as static charge can burn out electronic parts.

I know most won't understand why I want a old detector working right when I have a newer one. I like my toys I owned a Eagle with the update chip in it and this is a Eagle ll , it is to replace a long ago detector I owned and was a great detector I had lots of fun with and many memories built with. Besides that it would be good to have something I am confident in so I can let others detect with me using my M6 knowing the Eagle ll can do as good or better. I would like to make a new shaft setup and mount the box so it would be light for handling. I doubt it weighs much more than my M6 it is just the way the handle is set up that it makes it balance heavy. With the screen at the end of the handle things would be awkward to set up. Only option would be to hip mount it all. Or take it apart and remount things with a shaft setup from a modern detector.
Then you lose the antique look. LOL __________________ |
