Default What a pain in the arm...

Got out with Beuller today to hunt a 1800's farmhouse he had secured permission for. The 1800's house was built over the foundation of a 1700's house. Beuller had visions of Seateds and Barbers and Large Cents, me...I know better by now and would have been happy with a Rosie...Didn't even get that...The farmhouse was a total bust for the both of us, all we could figure was the whole property got covered in fill dirt sometime in the 60's. I dug a '50 wheat, 3 Turtlefoots, a '60 plate tag, and a livestock band dated 1941. Beuller got a buckle and a couple pieces of clad before we decided to bail. Seeing we're in the middle of Wallyworld, CT, Beuller's old stomping grounds, he had the idea to hit one of the local hunted out parks...[IMG][/IMG] Not a bad looking place, couple of ballfields, tennis and b-ball courts, a skating pond...dates back to the 1800's...We split up and began searching. My first dig was a 1917 Wheat, which gave me some hope, but it was pretty dismal after that...after wandering around for an hour finding little, I decided to hunt on the side of the b-ball court [IMG][/IMG]and try to score some easy clad, figuring maybe someone only half-hunted that section. I dug a quick couple of quarters, got .16 in a mini spill, then heard a deep one way good tone. I circled it but it just hit on the north/south, but sounded nice, so I cut a deep plug and scanned it, nothing. I looked over to the hole, reaching for the pinpointer...Nope, don't need it, there it is...[IMG][/IMG] Stuck on the vertical to the side of the hole 7" down, amazingly I didn't scuff it. Happy Time, no skunk!...Good thing, too, because the rest of the hunt was beat, I dug less than $2 in clad, a couple, 3 wheats, a ladies watch minus the band, and what looks like a bracelet of some sort. Here's the pile of stuff...[IMG][/IMG] I'll clean it up and post some more pix later. Thanks for looking and reading!

Congrats on your finds.
You know, I can relate to the farm situation. I have been on two farm hunts and both a total bust. Not just for me, but all in our group were very dissapointed. Thought I would hit my first Morgan on a farm hunt. Nope. Go figure.....

Stick with those old farm houses. When you get the right one, boy does it pay off.

Nice hunt Captain!! Silver always saves the hunt!

Sorry to hear our arm is bothering you. Your one of those hardcore all or nothing guys so I know you'll power through it.

I find lifting weights 5x a week and drinking beer totally conditions ones body to the rigors of constant metal detecting

Agreed. I have hunted two old farm houses hard. Dug a ton of trash found squat for coinage of any age. Both are on land I own so I can dig is much as I want. So I have whittled away at the trash over the years and maybe someday I'll find something. Both homesteads are early 1900s. Not a fan of the "old farm house dig".

Here's that watch I dug from about 8" deep...[IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG] It gets no cleaner than this...but even with the moisture behind the bezel, the old Timex is still ticking and keeping time after 20+ years in the ground! Very cool![IMG][/IMG] This, I don't know what it is...[IMG][/IMG]Here's the 'Turtlefoots'...[IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG] These are the keeper coins...[IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] Today's lessons- The private yards I can do without, as long as I have 'hunted out' parks and schools, and the woods, to find my silver in, and left handed hunting is slowly beginning to feel...not so strange

Very nice way to go from a bust to a decent hunt. Cool on the Timex! You should call and tell them your story, they may send you a watch....Curt

Yep, just one silver, but that's all it takes...Beuller and the E-Trac managed 4 or 5 Wheats, a couple bucks in clad, but no silver. This park is hit real hard, there's very little clad, but I could probably pull another silver or 2 out if I put my mind to it...

That's amazing about the watch still working. Congrats on the rebound from the farm house. When in doubt, hit a park. Congrats on the Merc too.
