Default New to hobby

Hi all, my wife & I are looking to start hunting. Still researching equipment. We are looking at a Garrett 250 or Bounty Hunter Quick Silver. Any thoughts on which is better for just starting out?

thanks,
mark & cheri, in TN

I vote for the Ace 250 for you, and the Tesoro Compadre for her! Happy Hunting!

Welcome to the forum from Katy, Texas !!!

Between those two I'd recommend the Ace 250, and I'd also highly recommend you two consider getting a Garrett Pro-Pointer... Once you use one you'll never consider detecting without one!!!

I started with an ACE and never regretted the decision. I would also recommend you get a good pinpointer! good luck

Welcome. I'd give a hard look at the Fisher F2 over the Ace 250. Big Boys Hobbies can hook you up with a 2-coil package for about $200.

I am another satisfied F2 owner. Just got mine the other day & yesterday was my 1st day with it & I have to say I was very pleased with it. Like any MD it takes a little time to get use to it & learn what its telling you,but after a total of maybe 3hrs with it I noticed I had made great progress learning the machine. When I was searching for an MD I was leaning strongly towards the ACE250. but what sold me on the F2 was the very fast recovery time from one target to another & for the same cost as the ACe it also came with the smaller coil, digging tool, apron pouch,Pinpointer, headphone(Cheap ones but they work) Look at the F2 also.check the Youtube demos that are out there

Welcome from Kansas.
I do great with the F2, also love my Compadre.
Lots of members do well with the 250, look at the F2 very closely, however, it has more features that will help a newbie.

Whatever you do, stay far, far away from that Quicksilver unless you like to have a high degree of frustration in your life.

I also think you'd be better off with a Fisher F2 than an Ace 250.
